This year, the Queen Mary Park Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, June, 24th at 7:00pm – 8:00pm.

With the uncertainty regarding future COVID-19 restrictions at this time the AGM will be planned to take place virtually via Zoom videoconference.

During the meeting, community members will be presented with an annual report of the League’s activities and financial statements from the previous year.

Attendees will have the opportunity to nominate/elect new members to serve on the League’s Board of Directors, and will also have the opportunity to present any questions or concerns they may have.

This year, elections will also be held for the following roles within the board:
– Vice President
– Secretary

Stay tuned to our emails and social media accounts for further updates and meeting links.

Big Bin Events Postponed

On May 5, the Government of Alberta implemented new public health measures to address the spread of COVID-19. Unfortunately these new restrictions have resulted in the requirement to postpone our annual Community Bin event. We hope to be able to re-evaluate and re-schedule our popular Community Bin event later on this summer. Stay tuned!

40 km/hr Speed Limit

As of May 1st, the City of Edmonton have started implementing 40km/hr speed limits on most residential and downtown streets. This includes roads in Queen Mary Park.

For more information about the speed limit reduction project visit edmonton.ca/SafeSpeeds. An interactive map of all affected roads can be found here.

Yard Share YEG

Do you have garden space you are willing to share? Are you an apartment/condo resident looking for garden space?

Yard-sharing is an arrangement between people to share skills and gardening resources, including space, time, and tools, in order to grow food. A person who lacks space to grow (Grower) is connected with a neighbour who offers their garden space for the season (Yard Host). In return, the yard host receives a share of the food the grower produces.

Alcohol at Designated Picnic Sites

On May 3, City Council approved a plan to permit alcohol consumption at 47 picnic sites across seven parks in the River Valley as a pilot project that will run from May 28, 2021 to October 11, 2021.

The selected parks for the 2021 pilot project include: Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Whitemud, William Hawrelak, Government House, Victoria, Gold Bar and Rundle. Park sites include both bookable and “first-come, first-served” picnic sites.

Adults may consume alcohol safely and responsibly from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily at only those picnic sites marked by signage. Alcohol consumption is still not permitted at picnic sites in those parks that are not part of the pilot project. The only exception is for activities that have a festival and event license.
