November Safety Tips
WORKING SMOKE AND CARBON MONOXIDE ALARMS SAVE LIVES, ONE BEEP AT A TIME!
Although these alarms detect different things, there are similarities in maintaining them.
Replace batteries at least once a year; never remove the batteries or disable alarms.
Check for the “replace by date” as both alarms have a lifespan and need to be replaced once they have expired.
Follow all manufacturer specific installation and use instructions.
Dust each alarm regularly to help them receive the best signal.
Using interconnected alarms is always recommended so that everyone in the building has the best chance of early detection and escape.
November is Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month. As the temperatures start to drop and home heating begins, it is important to have a qualified technician inspect all gas appliances such as your furnace and fireplace to ensure that your home stays cozy and fire safe all winter. Install the alarms in a central location outside of each sleeping room as well as on every level of your home. Learn more at edmonton.ca/firesafety.
